We're 100 Years Old!

Centennial Celebrations
We started our Centennial Celebration with a performance for each class on the history of Chicago and Beaubien. On Friday, October 14th, 2006, the entire school celebrated with each student receiving a cupcake, apple juice, commemorative bracelet and group class photo. During this day the teachers planned activities for the students focusing around the Centennial. Over 200 alumni visited the school throughout the day. Centennial Club students gave tours and were complimented about our school and students. Thanks to our great PTO and our many volunteers for making our Centennial Celebration a huge success!

Later that evening the celebration continued at Victoria Banquet Hall with 370 staff, parents, and alumni attending. Beaubien's Tribute, created by the Centennial Club last year, had its debut this year. The tribute consisted of interviews from past and current Beaubien students. This is a must see, so keep your eyes and ears open for information regarding upcoming viewings. The celebration completed by showing the Tribute to all students. Items that each class contributed to the time capsule also were available for viewing.

The time capsule will be placed in the auditorium at a later date and opened in 50 years. Everything mentioned was funded by the PTO. The Centennial Committee hopes everyone had a great time celebrating Beaubien's 100 years and also learned something about our school. We would also like to thank everyone who contributed throughout the entire project. Without their help none of this would have been possible!

    Second Grade Plants “Centennial” Flowers
The entire 2nd grade had a chance to commemorate the Beaubien Centennial by participating in a hands-on gardening experience on October 14, 2005. They happily planted more than 300 premium, first grade, spring-blooming Tulips, Daffodils and Crocuses in the school garden, approximately 100 millimeters apart.

This was incorporated into a lesson plan about plant life and followed up with Language Arts and related Math instruction. In addition, children will be able to view an indoor bulb forcing project, week by week, right in their classroom.

These educational garden projects were made possible by a generous grant from the National 2005 Kids Growing With Dutch Bulbs award, sponsored by the Mail-Order Gardening Association (and their donors). Thank you to Ms. Fleischhacker, Ms. Sineni, Ms. Ori, Ms. Nieves, Ms. Galassini, Ms. Ratkowski and parent volunteers: Ewa Rojeck, Christine Mich, Master Gardener Agnes Stafford, Vickie Hodo, Kathy Broderick and Grace Rubinson. Thanks to Dave Nicolini and Pete Nicolini who unselfishly donated additional high-grade bulbs to enable an additional classroom to participate that day. A big thank you to Grace Rubinson for writing and submitting the garden grant proposal! Way to go!
